For the first time, the sprint and forest distances are separated in the championships.

The big star Tove Alexandersson's main focus is on the World Cup competitions.

- I really like running forest the most.

But it will be exciting to make a sprint bet.

There will be more focus on running on hard surfaces and not as much orienteering in the woods until the WC, she says.

Sprint orienteering involves running in an urban environment and mostly on asphalt.

The race lasts for about 15 minutes.

In forest orientation, the distances are longer and take place on softer terrain in forests.

First time in 2001

The national team is planning a training camp before the WC where the focus is on optimizing the shape of the sprint distances.

National team manager Håkan Carlsson says that it is about being able to make different decisions and get the runners used to the surface.

- It is asphalt surface so it is about training and getting faster at it.

When it comes to technology, it is about making quick decisions, choosing the right or left of buildings in an urban environment, he says.

The sprint distances were at the championship for the first time in 2001 when the World Cup was decided in Tampere, Finland.

According to the International Orienteering Federation, they now want to separate the distances between the championships to find more organizers.

A championship with both sprint and forest distances is considered to have the capacity to arrange.
