French boxing in mourning.

Julie Le Gaillard died Sunday as a result of the Covid-19.

The former champion of France under 57 kg in 2015 had been hospitalized for several weeks.

The 21-year-old was close to former world welterweight champion Anne-Sophie Mathis.

The latter paid tribute to her former friend in remarks quoted by

L'Est Républicain

 :

“Julie was a very close friend, she has always followed me during my career, she has always been there.

In 2015, when she was champion of France, I was in her corner around the ring, with René (Cordier).

We often yelled at each other, because, like me, Julie had character ... But she also had a fragile side and sometimes needed comfort.

She often slept at home, where we spent hours chatting.
