The qualifiers for next year's world championship in football are in full swing.

In parallel, Amnesty presents its latest report, Reality Check 2021, which shows that developments in Qatar have stagnated over the past year.

According to the organization, the abuse, which was previously common but has since been banned, has returned.

- The daily life of many migrant workers in Qatar continues to be extremely hard, despite improvements in legislation since 2017. People continue to be exploited by unscrupulous employers with no chance of redress, says Ami Hedenborg.

"Fail to produce"

The report also shows that workers are still tied to jobs they want to leave, despite the introduction of several positive reforms in recent years.

Workers have also had problems with the payment of wages.

Amnesty calls on the authorities to take action to speed up the reform process.

"The progress made to date is likely to be lost if Qatar is content with a weak implementation and fails to hold perpetrators accountable," said Mark Dummett, head of Amnesty International's Global Issues Program.

From August this year, a documentation from Amnesty shows how Qatar did not investigate the deaths of migrant workers - despite links between uncertain conditions and deaths.
