Shohei Ohtani of the Major League Baseball Angels won the "Silver Slugger Award" in the American League designated hitter category, which is given to the best batter for each position.
This is the second Japanese player to win the Silver Slugger Award for the first time in 12 years since Ichiro Suzuki in 2009, and Otani is the first Japanese player to win the designated hitter category.
