Earlier in November, the International Federation of Modern Pentathlon, UIPM, decided to remove horse jumping from the modern Pentathlon after the Paris Olympics in 2024 - something that provoked strong reactions.

- Sweden will act.

I doubt how this whole process went, said Svante Rasmuson, sports director of the Swedish association, to SVT Sport.

And now Sweden is acting through an open letter to UIPM.

The Swedish federation, led by chairman Bengt Jönsson, emphasizes, among other things, that horse jumping has been part of the modern pentathlon in the Olympics since 1912 and that the branch is still important for preserving the sport's basic idea of appointing the most complete practitioner.

"The proposal to remove the event is therefore both unexpected and risky," the Swedish association writes.

The letter also expresses concern that the modern pentathlon will disappear completely from the Olympic program.

"We fear that such a radical change would severely limit the ability of the branch to stay."

Therefore, the Swedish union now demands action.

In addition to horse jumping, modern pentathlon consists of fencing, swimming, shooting and cross-country running.

It is still unclear which branch will replace the horse jumping.
