The home team Montreal washed over the guests in the first period and won the shots by a full 20-1.

Thanks to a big-playing goalkeeper from Gothenburg, the score was "only" 0-2 when the team went to the break.

- It was crucial that he played as he did because it could have been 5-0 after the first period and then the match would have been over.

We left Robin completely alone out there, but he gave us the chance to take us back into the game.

He was fantastic just like he has been all year, says coach Peter DeBoer.

Lehner himself was also critical of the start.

- There were no beautiful words in the dressing room.

We were not happy.

The first period was unacceptable.

But you have to take a breath, forget it and move on.

I'm happy how we bounced back, says the 30-year-old.

The season's first goal in powerplay

Vegas turned 0-2 to 3-2 in the second period and it is noteworthy that they scored their first two goals in powerplay in the entire season.

They now have an efficiency of 9.5 percent, which is the third worst of the league's 32 teams.

Robin Lehner was also noted for a pass to Brayden McNabbs 5-2 in the empty net with 35 seconds left.

But it was the finish, rather than the pass, that stood out.

The cage keeper picked up the puck behind his own bag and handed it over to McNabb who, from his own extended goal line, lobbed all over the ice and managed to find the net.

"A fantastic pass"

- Wonderful!

It was a fantastic pass, Lehner laughs afterwards.

- No, but it was good that "Nabber" took advantage of it.

It was a nice feeling.

They were still pushing hard then so that kind of goal means a lot.

This was the first meeting between Vegas and Montreal since this spring's semifinal series in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

That time, Montreal won 4-2 in games, then lost in the final to Tampa Bay.
