Lars Frölander swam in the previous Swedish record time of 22.97 during a World Cup competition in New York in 2001. Since then, no one has been faster.

But Oskar Hoff has been close.

He had 23.01 in the trials and today he reached all the way.

Hoff swam in at 22.95 in the semifinals.

- It was time, says Frölander in SVT's broadcast.

For Hoff's part, it was unfortunately not enough for the final.

He finished sixth in his semifinal.

- You can not be dissatisfied with your first Swedish record.

I am very happy, says Hoff after being congratulated by Lars Frölander in the broadcast.

Erik Persson ready for the final

Another blue-yellow men's swimmer who impressed was Erik Persson who went to the final in the 200 meter breaststroke - the same distance he took silver two years ago.

When Persson swam in second in Glasgow in 2019, it was his first international championship medal ever.

Since then, there has been another medal - a bronze in the 200-meter breaststroke at the European Championships in Budapest.

The question is whether there will be a third in Kazan.

The chance exists in any case.

Persson is on to the final of the 200 meter breaststroke after finishing second in his semifinal at 2.03.50.

- I got a good feeling through the race and look forward to the final tomorrow.

Hopefully I can reduce the time a bit, says Persson.
