As the heir to the throne of Habib Nur Mammadov, much was told about the Russian wrestler Islam Makhashev, and his place in the lightweight competitions in mixed martial arts.

Many believe that Makhachev is the best wrestler in the weight of 70 kilograms, and he showed his extraordinary performance in the event "UFC267) when he easily defeated his New Zealand competitor Dan Hooker and almost broke his hand.

Last weekend's UFC event was groundbreaking for Russia, with 5 of the six winners being Russian-born.

But Makhachev's victory was a little different.

He faced a wrestler ranked No. 6 in the world rankings with a weight of 70 kg, one of the heaviest weight divisions in the organization, not to mention that Makhachev eliminated his New Zealand opponent in just two minutes and 25 seconds of the first round.

Battle for the title

After the bout ended, Makhachev wasted no time in calling for a title fight in his next match.

"The next fight, it must be for the title, a decisive battle, because I have a streak of 9 consecutive victories," Makhachev shouted - in his in-ring interview.

“Who of my weight has this? Only the champion” (Charles Oliveira).

"And I feel like my department is a bit asleep at the moment... I have to wake it up, because we have to change some things."

"The top five champions actually fought for the title: [Michael] Chandler, [Justin] Gethji. That's why we have to change something."

Habib supports Makhachev

Makhachev is one of the favorites to launch like a rocket in the world of mixed martial arts, and to be the next lightweight champion in the game, but first he has to wait for a match between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier, and asks for a fight with the winner between them.

And retired champion Habib Nur Mammadov believes that "Makhachev will be his real successor as a lightweight champion."

Habib - who has been training with Islam Makhachev for years and is supervising his training so far - confirmed that Makhachev is ready, and in 2022 we will return this belt to the AKA (American Kickboxing Academy).
