Houston was forced to win tonight's match to get to a seventh and decisive match, but Atlanta never gave them a chance - after, among other things, a home run by Jorge Soler, the Braves won 7-0 in Houston.

The Cuban Soler was later named the most valuable player in the entire final series after making three home runs during the six matches.

"Waited so long"

With the victory, the 26-year wait is over for the team, which last won in 1995 and has not been in the final of the North American baseball league this side of the millennium.

- In this city we have been waiting to become champions for so long now and I am overjoyed that we managed to take home the victory, says one of the heroes, Freddie Freeman, to the news agency AP, and continues:

- It is one of those moments in life where even dreams come true.

You dream about it, but in the end it was about winning a baseball match with this gang, says Freeman who has played in Atlanta throughout his eleven-year career.

Controversial teams

This year's final pair has not been the most popular in World Series history.

Houston, champion in 2017 and in its third final in five years, was revealed in 2019 by spying on camera surveillance on the opposing team's secret internal signals, including during the championship year 2017. The team has been punished, but is still seen as a cheater by many baseball fans.

Atlanta, on the other hand, came to the finals as a highbrow with an anything but simple season behind them.

But many neutral baseball supporters are disgusted by the gesture with the arm, "tomahawk chop", where they pretend to stab someone with an ax - a gesture that is seen as racist and for which several groups fighting for indigenous rights have demanded a stop.

The debate gained new momentum this weekend when former US President Donald Trump was in the final game of the final series, in Atlanta, and then did not hesitate to make the gesture.
