The 28-year-old ended his career by jumping in the Olympic final in Tokyo.
She finished in 13th place after only passing the entrance height of 4.50.
She felt abandoned afterwards and put down the season and thought about the future.
- I have been thinking about it for a long time now and especially after the Olympics it felt like I had done and tried everything I could.
Then I let it land a bit anyway, so I have waited a while to make the final decision, she tells DN.
When SVT Sport spoke to Bengtsson a month ago, she did not know anything about the future and did not even know what the qualifying limit was for the World Cup in Oregon next year.
She felt a little craving for athletics in connection with the Diamond League final in early September, but then came to think that it was her friends she was missing.
Not the competition or the training itself for that matter either.
- I'm quite happy that I do not have to train.
I have never had a real seasonal rest before, because you have been afraid that you will never want to start again.
And now I took one and now I do not want to start again.
