• The Tesla Model 3, the first electric that leads sales in Europe

  • Mircrochips crisis: the odyssey of buying a car in Spain

The automotive industry has a new leader.

According to the latest registration data for September, the

Tesla Model 3

was the best-selling car in Europe.

For the first time, in addition, an electric vehicle occupies the first place in this ranking of registrations and also a model produced outside the Old Continent.

According to data from JAYO Dynamics, a total of 24,591 Tesla Model 3 units (+ 58%) were registered for European drivers and well ahead of customers who opted for the

Renault Clio

,

Dacia Sandero

and

Volkswagen Golf

.

These data mark the

clear trend of the market towards the electrification of vehicles

.

An initiative that has both the support of European governments, with the objective focused on the 2030 Agenda, and by the automotive industry itself.

The price of a Tesla Model 3 is 49,000 euros, but the market offers other cheaper options such as the

Renault Zoe

for 20,277 euros or the

Peugeot E-2008

from 23,650 euros.

In the case of the SUV segment, total reference for sales in Spain, the new

MG One model

goes on sale from 24,190 euros.

When opting for a plug-in hybrid or 100% electric car, you must take into account both the aids offered in the purchase process and the autonomy needs that the vehicle will have, among other factors.

1.Aid for electric cars in Spain

The MOVES 2021 III Plan wants to mobilize the car fleet in Spain towards the electric vehicle.

In the next two years that the aid will be in force, it is expected that

250,000 new electric cars will circulate on Spanish roads.

In addition, 100,000 recharging points will also be installed to facilitate long-distance travel.

The private customer who chooses to buy a

plug-in vehicle will be able to access aid of up to 4,500 euros

if the new car offers a range equal to or greater than 90 kilometers.

If the purchase of the new vehicle includes a vehicle for scrapping, and with more than seven years,

you can request aid of up to 7,000 euros

.

This new edition of the MOVES III program also stands out for the attention and the reinforcement of aid to rural areas, better known as "Spain emptied".

Thus, an additional 10% of aid will be granted to those owners of new electric vehicles who are

registered in towns of less than 5,000 inhabitants.

You can also opt for this 10% extra for people with disabilities due to reduced mobility or professional use for taxi or VTC service

2.Car charging points in the Spanish network

In its latest report, the Mobility Commission of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce has registered 8,545 public charging points.

However, 91% of these points are low power or trickle charge.

They take between three and 19 hours, depending on the model, to complete the maximum storage capacity of the battery.

So far there are only

38 points

registered

in the entire Spanish geography with a power of 250 KW.

These feeding points

they are capable of carrying out a full charge in a maximum period of 10 to 15 minutes.

The Government estimates that more than 5 million electric vehicles will circulate in 2030, but this will require reaching 500,000 public vehicle recharging points.

3.Cost of an electric charger for a private home

The prices of installing a fast charger at home with its intermediate quality service currently range between

700 and 1,200 euros for the basic versions.

These costs also receive up to a 70% subsidy within the MOVES III plan for individuals, the self-employed and public administration centers.

With a power outlet of up to

3.7 kW, a range of 150 kilometers can be achieved

using eight hours of connection.

Depending on the vehicle's battery and its condition, adding a full charge will take 24 hours.

On the other hand, if we are looking for more versatility in our vehicle and we want agility in the charging processes, we will opt for a 7.4 kW charger version.

Thus, the charging time can be reduced between four or five hours by adding a range of 200 kilometers.

4.Which cars use the 'premium' charger?

Bigger words are the 11 kW and 22 kW chargers used by the

Tesla Model 3 and S

, the

Porsche Taycan

or the

Audi e-tron GT

.

The price of the charger in these cases starts from 1,700 euros.

On the other hand, there is the problem of coexistence between chargers and maximum power of the light contracted at home.

It will be usual that when the vehicle is in the charging phase, it will also have a few hours of high light consumption at home.

For this reason, the charger must also have an automatic charging power regulation system.

This way you can take advantage of all the contracted power without exceeding its limit that would leave us if service throughout the house.

5. How much does it cost to recharge an electric vehicle?

The latest OCU report states that the average annual cost of recharges in the last year has risen by 235% from 190 to 447 euros.

While with the latest rise in oil, the cost of a

gasoline

vehicle

costs 1,006 euros compared to 775 euros for a diesel.

The study calculates an estimated consumption of 2,000 kWh with recharges in private homes that combines the off-peak price schedules and the PVPC rate.
