Manchester United secured a much-needed victory in the Premier League on Saturday.

The team of the troubled manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer won 0-3 against Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City suffered a painful defeat to Crystal Palace and Liverpool were left with a 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion.

After last week's devastating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, it was questionable whether Solskjaer would be sacked, but the Norwegian has the confidence of the club management for the time being.

Thanks in part to Cristiano Ronaldo, the former striker of the club seems to be a bit more firmly in the saddle for the time being.

The 36-year-old Portuguese opened the score in London in the 39th minute.

A cross from Bruno Fernandes landed exactly at Ronaldo, who left Hugo Lloris no chance with a flawless volley.

Twenty minutes after the break, Edinson Cavani took care of the liberating 0-2, after again good preparatory work by Fernandes and Ronaldo.

Fernandes intercepted the ball around the halfway line and passed to Ronaldo, who in turn sent Cavani away with a nice through ball.

The Uruguayan then completed coolly.

Marcus Rashford, who came in for Ronaldo, also scored the third goal five minutes before the end.

Donny van de Beek was on the bench for the entire game at United, which recorded its first league win since September 19.

'The Red Devils' are now in the second tier with seventeen points.

The defender just played the ball in his own half into the feet of Conor Gallagher.

The team of manager Josep Guardiola was also eliminated by West Ham United in the League Cup on Wednesday.

Liverpool did not take full advantage of the surprising defeat of competitor City against Brighton & Hove Albion: 2-2.

'The Reds' were leading 2-0 within 25 minutes thanks to a seething shot by Jordan Henderson and a good header from Sadio Mané.

Shortly before the break, Enock Mwepu scored the connecting goal by curling the ball in beautifully and in the 65th minute Crystal Palace came alongside with another nice goal.

Leandro Trossard outplayed his direct opponent in the penalty area and left goalkeeper Alisson without a chance with a shot from close range.
