It is clearly a qualified coach who takes over the helm of hard-working Everton.

The 52-year-old's most recent coaching assignment was at the French big club Lyon, which he led to a Champions League title in 2020. In the same year, he was also named coach of the year in women's football by the International Football Association Fifa.

Vasseur's contract is for two years and he replaces Willie Kirk, who left Everton earlier in October.

The club has had a tough start to the season and is eight after five rounds in the English Super League.

- It came as a shock.

At the same time, we have not reached the level and not at all got the results we wanted.

It will be very interesting when you come home and see what happens to the team and what we can do in the league, said the team's Swedish midfielder Nathalie Björn after the news that Kirk left.
