Top sailor Marit Bouwmeester (33) is expecting her first child.

De Friezin, good for three Olympic medals, will therefore miss the World Cup in Oman next month.

Bouwmeester posted a photo with baby clothes, toys and an ultrasound photo.

The baby is expected in May.

"Diederick and I are super happy and grateful. If everything goes well, the timing will be perfect for my road to the Olympic Games in Paris", Bouwmeester says.

During her pregnancy, Bouwmeester does not have to miss any qualifying matches for the 2024 Games in the French capital.

Bouwmeester won Olympic silver in the laser radial class at the London Games in 2012. The multiple world champion captured the Olympic title at Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and had to settle for bronze in Tokyo last summer.

Bouwmeester wants to go for gold in Paris

Her preparation for the Games in Japan was far from optimal due to an elbow injury.

She was unable to act for months.

Despite this, she was not satisfied with bronze.

Bouwmeester immediately said he would go for gold again in Paris.

"But I really have to distance myself from sailing in the coming weeks. I'm going on vacation, because I have to recharge to be able to fight for something new," she said in Tokyo.
