A pair of basketball shoes worn by American basketball star Michael Jordan in his early years was auctioned for approximately US$1.47 million on October 24, setting a record for the highest auction price of participating basketball shoes.

Sotheby’s auction house released a message through its Twitter account that day that the pair of Nike Air Ship sneakers worn by Jordan was sold for US$1.472 million at a luxury auction in Las Vegas, the United States.

According to Agence France-Presse, Jordan, as a member of the Chicago Bulls in 1984, wore this pair of red and white sneakers to participate in the fifth game of the rookie season.

This pair of sneakers are signed by Jordan, and the estimated auction price is between 1 million and 1.5 million US dollars. The buyer is the well-known collector Nick Fiorella.

Another pair of sneakers worn by Jordan was sold for $615,000 at an auction in August last year, setting a record for the highest auction price of sneakers worn in a basketball game at that time.
