Florian Kohfeldt is the new coach of the Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.

As the club confirmed on Tuesday, the Lower Saxony have agreed on a collaboration with the former Werder Bremen coach until 2023.

The 39-year-old inherits Mark van Bommel, who was dismissed from the “Wolves” on Sunday due to the negative sporting development.

Kohfeldt was released from his duties at Werder in May of this year despite a contract until the summer of 2023.

Borussia Dortmund's technical director Edin Terzic was also recently considered a candidate.

After separating from van Bommel, Michael Frontzeck was promoted to interim coach at the Champions League participant.

The next VfL duel is on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and Sky) in the Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen.
