Fans return to horse races in the Emirates

In the context of overcoming the global crisis represented by the Covid-19 pandemic, and announcing the beginning of the return of life to normal, the Emirates Horse Racing Authority announced the return of the masses to the grandstands of horse racing tracks in the country after an absence of more than one season due to the repercussions imposed by the pandemic and caused the suspension of Mass gatherings within the measures to combat the pandemic, while leaving the option for each of the state tracks to determine attendance rates in coordination with the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management, as well as the relevant committees in each emirate, coinciding with the authority’s announcement to attract national competencies to work in the field of race management.

This came during the meeting, which was chaired by Sheikh Rashid bin Dalmouk Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Racing Authority, in the presence of Board Member and Director of the Authority, Engineer Mohammed Al Shehhi, and a number of officials within the Authority's work team.

For his part, Engineer Muhammad Al-Shehhi confirmed that the protocol for the return of the masses to attend the races will be announced during the coming period, calling for continued adherence to precautionary measures and adherence to the instructions issued by the competent official authorities to ensure the safety of everyone and the implementation of the health protocol with great accuracy.

Encouraging decisions and initiatives during the meeting:


- Approval of increasing the number of invitations for owners to attend the races.


- Approval of dividing the junior races if the number is complete to give the opportunity for the largest number of junior horses to participate in coordination with the clubs.


Supporting owners by reducing financial fees related to horse income and supporting major races at Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali tracks.


- Creating a race secretary job in the authority to coordinate with the tracks to develop integrated and balanced programs that serve the interests of all participants.


- Forming a special committee for trainers to present their opinions, observations and suggestions.


- Approving the establishment of their own workshops, through which they will be informed of developments related to the new laws, in an effort to create a stimulating and positive environment.


- Approval of the formation of a technical committee for the equivalence of weights, whose task is to consider the trainers’ comments and grievances.


- Strengthening cooperation with brothers in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in the field of coordinating horse racing programs, exchanging experiences, and laws of horse racing and horse movements between countries and veterinary quarries.
