Barcelona faces Boca Juniors in the Maradona Cup in Riyadh
Barcelona will meet Argentina's Boca Juniors in an exhibition match in Saudi Arabia in the Diego Maradona Cup next December.
The first edition of the Maradona Cup will be held in Riyadh on December 14, shortly after the anniversary of the death of the Argentine legend in his country at the age of 60, after his heart stopped two weeks after he underwent brain surgery.
Maradona played for Boca Juniors between 1981 and 1982 before moving to Barcelona, where he won the King's Cup, the Spanish League Cup and the Spanish Super Cup.
Maradona returned to Boca Juniors and spent two years with him before the curtain came down on his inspiring career in 1997.
The match will take place a week after Barcelona's clash with Bayern Munich in its last match in the Champions League group stage, and it will face its host Osasuna in the Spanish League on December 11.
Barcelona will return to Saudi Arabia in January 2022 to compete in the Spanish Super Cup with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.
Barcelona and Boca met ten times before, the last of which was in the Joan Gamper Cup, which ended with the Catalan club winning three goals without a response.
