A cyclist crushes a woman before the finish line in a terrifying scene.. Video

A Spanish cyclist crushed a woman while crossing a road that formed a cycling track, as the woman crossed from the area just before the finish line.

The woman was treated at the scene of the accident before being airlifted to the hospital, where her condition was described as "extremely serious".

The cyclist, whose name was not given, was also taken to hospital with head injuries.

Shocking footage taken shortly before the finish line of the Salmore Cycling Race on Canary Island in El Hierro, which involved 270 cyclists, showed the woman crossing the road with a mobile phone in her left hand, as the cyclist approached her at very high speed. Which made the clash terrifying, in terms of form and the consequences of it.

Seconds before the accident, another man was filmed wandering through the same spot between two rows of onlookers, holding a mobile phone.

The screams of the spectators could be heard as the horrific incident occurred.

The force of the impact raised initial fears for the life of the injured woman, and it later emerged that the unnamed woman had been flown to Tenerife due to the severity of her injuries.

Sources at La Candelaria Hospital on the island say her condition is still "extremely serious".

The horrific incident occurred around 2.45 pm on Saturday.

And local media indicated that there were no barriers in some sections of the last part of the race track, which would have prevented spectators from crossing in front of the runners.

There has been no official comment yet from the local council, which posted footage on Twitter of the start of the event, but nothing appears at the end of the race, and the police are investigating the incident.

A fan responded on social media to the photos of the crash, saying, "How can the organizers of an event like this allow members of the public to approach the finish line and endanger the safety of cyclists!"
