Urara Ashikawa won the gold medal at the world championship of gymnastics held in Kitakyushu City, the balance beam by women's event.

This is the first time Ashikawa has won a medal at the world championships.

This is the first gold medal for a Japanese female player in three tournaments since Mai Murakami in the 2017 tournament.

What is Urara Ashikawa?

Urara Ashikawa is 18 years old from Shizuoka prefecture.

From an early age, I started competing with my two older sisters in a local gymnastics class, and with an outstanding sense of balance, I have been doing big tricks of F difficulty on the balance beam since I was in elementary school.



And I finished 3rd in the balance beam of the All Japan Championships that I participated in in the second year of junior high school.



In the World Cup from 2019, which also served as the qualifying for the individual quota of the Tokyo Olympics, he won the championship in three tournaments and left results in international tournaments, deciding to participate in the Olympic Games for the first time.



At the Tokyo Olympics, I advanced to the final on the balance beam by event and finished 6th.

Murakami is a bronze medal

Mai Murakami won the bronze medal at the world gymnastics championship held in Kitakyushu, the balance beam by women's event.



Murakami is the first medal winner in this event.
