Borussia Dortmund will have to learn to live without their favorite cyborg.

The club announced on Friday that its star striker Erling Haaland would be absent for "several weeks".

It is a blow for the German club totally dependent on the Norwegian prodigy striker.

"He suffers from a hip injury which prevents him from playing," his return will take "a little while," said Marco Rose, BVB coach, at a press conference.

The 21-year-old played the entire meeting on Wednesday with Dortmund, during their large defeat (4-0) against Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League.

“It's time to focus on my healing.

I will come back stronger!

Haaland launched on Twitter, accompanying his message with a photo of him thanking the audience.

Behind Haaland, the desert

The striker's absence is bad news for the German club, currently second in the Bundesliga just one point behind the Bavarian leaders.

With nine goals this season, he shares the lead in the German league scorers' standings with his Bayern counterpart, Robert Lewandowski.

His unavailability is a headache for his coach who lacks a real alternative to this position: alone, he represents almost a third of all goals scored by Dortmund in the Bundesliga this season.

He also remains his club's best passer with four assists to his credit.
