Representatives of the Union Berlin club, including members of the board of directors, were assaulted Wednesday evening by hooligans at a restaurant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the Feyenoord club lamented on Thursday.

The incident took place the day before the match between the Berlin club and Feyenoord in the Europa League Conference.

"Dozens of people" bombarded the Berlin delegation with chairs and glasses, a spokeswoman for the port city police confirmed.

Feyenoord apologizes

A woman from the German delegation sustained minor head injuries and had to be taken to hospital, where she has since been discharged, police said.

One of the perpetrators, a 25-year-old man from Rotterdam, was arrested.

According to Dutch media, Union Berlin President Dirk Zingler was among the group of 25 that was attacked.

Feyenoord in a statement apologized and denounced "a totally reprehensible event" whose perpetrators must be "found and punished".

"Thank you for those clear words, Feyenoord," Union Berlin replied on Twitter, sharing the statement.
