“UEFA” determines the value of the European federations’ losses from the “World Cup every two years”

A report issued by the European Football Association (UEFA) estimated the deficit of the European federations for the game between 2.5 and 3 billion euros over four years, in the event that the International Federation of the Game (FIFA) adopted its controversial plan to review the international calendar, including the organization of the World Cup every two years. According to an internal source in the European Commission.

And (UEFA) revealed the results of this study to the officials of the 55 member associations yesterday, knowing that this report does not take into account the possible additional deficit in the revenues of the national championships, according to what the newspapers “Le Monde” and “L’Equipe” indicated, which revealed the content of the document.

UEFA is against a project to reform the international calendar advocated by FIFA, which requires that the World Cup be held every two years from 2028, instead of every four years.

The voices opposing this project were also joined by representatives of national championships from all over the world, football players and fans.

In return for this opposition, FIFA President Gianni Infantino supports this project and continues his consultations with all concerned parties in the world of football, considering that this switch will lead to better benefits for the national federations, as he recently stated that "a final decision will be taken before next December."

In addition to the idea of organizing the World Cup every two years, the project of collecting qualifying matches in one window, in October or even in March and October, has also been introduced, while the World Cup qualifiers are currently organized throughout the year.

According to Le Monde newspaper, it is likely that the European Nations League competition, which was recently established by the European Union, will be canceled, and France won the second edition title, succeeding Portugal, which won the first, and the European Cup will be organized every two years instead of every four years.

Le Monde and L'Equipe added that for UEFA, such a scenario risks causing losses related to ticketing, carrier channels and sponsors.
