The World Cup every two years is the proposal that is being investigated as a potential future by Fifa.

In the group that Fifa has appointed on the women's side, TAG, there are several big profiles from all over the world.

A total of 21 people are in the investigation group, of which Lotta Schelin and Pia Sundhage are represented for the Swedish part.

- Spontaneously you think a lot of stuff.

Is it too often?

Is it dehydrated?

Another championship, how does it affect the players?

Then when you get to see the whole package, you understand that there is solid work that has been thought of in these parts, says Lotta Schelin.

"Not talking about the Olympics"

Much of the criticism is about diluting the World Cup as an event.

But also that they clash with other major events.

The IOC has criticized Fifa and urged them to enter into a larger dialogue with other sports.

Should the proposal become a reality, there is a risk that on the women's side it would clash with the Summer Olympics, which, unlike the men's side, are at senior level.

- We have not talked about the Olympics yet.

My spontaneous feeling that the Olympics should not be at senior level on the women's side feels shitty.

These are some of my greatest experiences in sports around the Olympics.

But we have not even gotten there yet.

But of course you understand that it is possible that it will be difficult to go hand in hand, says Schelin.

Uefa has also been very critical of Fifa's plans and has previously threatened to boycott the World Cup if the proposal becomes a reality.

- Uefa has come so far in its development.

I really understand that our part of the world will react more, says Schelin.

- The countries that have not really kept up with the development, it is so easy that they miss a qualifier and then the business is down.

They want all operations to be kept up globally.

South America or North America that have other systems probably see more benefits from it.

Uefa are probably the ones with the most tags around it, says Schelin.

"We have made mistakes before"

On the women's side, Jill Ellis leads the work and investigation team on behalf of Fifa, and on the men's side, it is Arsene Wenger, global development manager for Fifa, who pulls the strings.

At present, it is not a given that the men's and women's side will choose to proceed in the same way.

- There I felt that it might not be the right way to go.

We have made that mistake historically before, not to go side by side, says Lotta Schelin.

Lotta Schelin is clear that she is neither for nor against the proposal, but instead chooses to listen in and make comments when she thinks it is needed.

- There are many parts that sound good.

To reduce "play and go", to travel back and forth between club and national team.

It sounds interesting to save players travel, she says.

The investigation team will meet again in London next month.

In December, another Fifa meeting awaits where the issue will be raised again.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino to vote through the proposal at the 2022 Congress.
