During the European Championship final in football on 11 July 2021 between England-Italy, which Italy won after penalties, English supporters tried to storm Wembley.

Many managed to enter the arena, while several fights broke out in and around Wembley.

UEFA now punishes the English Football Association, FA, with two matches with empty stands.

One million in fines

The FA is also forced to pay a fine of approximately one million kronor: "For lack of order and discipline in and around the stadium, for the invasion of the pitch, for throwing objects and disturbance during the national anthems", as UEFA writes in a statement.

FA does not oppose the punishment:

"We condemn the horrific behavior of the individuals who caused the horrific scenes in and around Wembley Stadium during the Euro 2020 final, and we deeply regret that some of them managed to enter the stadium."

says the FA in a statement.

The matches without an audience will be played in the Nations League during the 2022-2023 season.
