French defender Lucas Hernández may have to serve a prison sentence.

The Bayern Munich player has been summoned to appear in court in Madrid on October 19 for violating a contact ban, Spanish justice announced on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old international was sentenced in 2017 to 31 days of community service and a contact ban of six months after domestic violence against his girlfriend.

His partner, who is now his wife, was sentenced to the same sentence for mutual violence and destruction of property.

However, the contact ban was ignored by the two by going on a honeymoon four months later and sharing many photos of it on social media.

Upon their return, they were met by the police at Madrid airport.

Hernández was sentenced to six months in prison for violating the contact ban.

His partner went free because the verdict had not yet been officially delivered to her.

French international appeals

Hernández appealed his prison sentence, but it was rejected.

After a period of silence, the 29-time French international was told this week that he must appear in court in Madrid on October 19 to hear his sentence.

He is then given ten days to voluntarily report to the prison.

Hernández has appealed again.

In Spain, prison sentences of less than two years are generally not enforced unless it is a recidivism, in which case incarceration is required, even if the sentence is very short.

However, it could be disadvantageous for him that he never carried out his previous community service of one month.

Hernández was part of the French selection that was active in the Final Four of the Nations League in Milan last week.

He was the basic player in the semi-final against Belgium (3-2) and remained on the bench in the won final against Spain (2-1).
