Earlier in the qualifiers, Germany suffered a shock loss at home to northern Macedonia, but in the rain in Skopje there was a class difference in the second half.

Tonight, Germany had the chance to secure first place in their World Cup qualifying group.

They topped the group with their 18 points - six points before the second, tonight's opposition, Northern Macedonia.

It started with a beautiful German roll-up.

Serge Gnabry's cutting deep lead ball released Thomas Müller who unselfishly passed sideways and gave Kai Havertz an open goal to make it 1-0 in the 50th minute.

Then it was the club mate in Chelsea who found the goal, twice more.

Timo Werner first knocked in 2-0 in the 70th before he a few minutes later more playfully screwed in the third in the far corner.

Werner then stepped off the field and his 18-year-old replacement Jamal Musiala put 4-0 at the end.

Thanks to Romania beating Armenia 1-0 at the same time, Germany has secured first place in qualifying group J, despite two rounds remaining.

Thus, the World Cup giant and the four-time world champion nation next year will have a chance for revenge for the early 2018 series, when Germany - despite the victory against Blågult - did not move on from Sweden's World Cup group.

Germany has played in all World Cup tournaments since 1954, while Norway's history in the tournament is not as proud.

In any case, the hope is now very much that Norway will reach the World Cup for the first time since 1998.
