The Turkish GP placed high demands on the drivers.

A previous rainstorm caused the track to dry slowly and the tire changes took place late in the race.

Lewis Hamilton changed, as the last top driver, as late as with seven laps left - but not entirely voluntarily.

With the British tire change, he lost two places, down to a fifth place.

On the damp surface, new tires did not become an advantage until the first rubber layer was worn down and the tires became a little smoother.

The late change sabotaged all chances for a podium place.

- Why did you give up that place ?, Hamilton exclaimed to his team on the radio.

Verstappen, on the other hand, seemed to have changed just in time and was able to guard his second place and salvage 18 new points and thus take over the World Cup lead, with six points.

- We maximized that result, it was not easy with the tires, Verstappen said after the finish.
