Cristiano Ronaldo has been directly voted Premier League player of the month after his first appearances since his return to Manchester United.

The five-time World Footballer of the Year takes the prize for the fifth time.

Ronaldo made a dream comeback on September 11 by scoring twice against Newcastle United (4-1).

A week later, he was also accurate in the 1-2 win against West Ham United.

Joao Cancelo (Manchester City), Antonio Rüdiger (Chelsea), Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle United), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Ismaila Sarr (Watford) were also nominated, but a panel of fans and pundits chose Ronaldo.

The 36-year-old Portuguese decided last month to leave Juventus after three years to return to United, where he also played between 2003 and 2009.

In that period he won the Champions League and three national titles with the 'Red Devils'.

Since coming to United, Ronaldo has scored five goals in seven games in all competitions.

United's next game is next Sunday, when they visit Leicester City.
