Lewis Hamilton won the qualification for the Formula 1 race in Turkey, but due to a penalty, the Englishman is only 11th in the Grand Prix this Sunday (2 p.m. CEST in the FAZ live ticker for Formula 1 and on RTL). Hamilton relegated his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas to second place in Istanbul on Saturday. However, because of an illegal engine change, the championship leader had to start ten places further back, causing Bottas to slide right up front. Red Bull man Max Verstappen finished the race in third place, but also moved up one place.

Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher meanwhile retired early in the qualification.

The Aston Martin driver and the driver of the US team Haas did not get past the second knockout round.

Vettel missed the top ten in eleventh, Schumacher finished the session in 14th. The son of record world champion Michael Schumacher reached the second qualifying round for the second time in his first season.

In the garage he gave his mechanics a satisfied clap.

Schumacher finished 15th in France in June.
