Charity match raises 150 thousand euros for victims of floods in western Germany

The charity match between German football club Mainz and third-division club Kaiserslautern raised a donation of 150,000 euros for the victims of the floods in western Germany.

The match, which was held on Saturday in the city of Koblenz, attended by 1,500 spectators, under the slogan "Together for Sport", ended with the two teams tied with one goal each.

Before kick-off, a spokesman for the Kaiserslautern Supervisory Board, Markus Merck, said: "When we saw the bad pictures of the torrential rain, it became immediately clear to all of us that we would help as much as possible."

Danny Schmidt scored in the 22nd minute to put Mainz ahead, before Kaiserslautern equalized through Elias Haut in the 85th minute.

The referee sent off Mainz goalkeeper Finn Damen shortly before the end of the match for deliberately touching the ball with his hand outside the penalty area.

The Kaiserslautern coach had to remove his player, Felix Goetze, who returned from a head injury, early in the first half after colliding with another player on a common ball.
