Dura lex, sed lex… Leader of the Formula 1 world championship, Briton Lewis Hamilton will start with a penalty of at least 10 places in the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday.

The Mercedes driver was "punished" for using a fourth engine this season, in excess of the allowed quota.

After the Dutchman Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in Russia 15 days ago, it is therefore his rival for the title who will be penalized for a similar reason.

The number of changes to the different elements of the single-seater powertrain is limited each season and any change beyond a certain number is automatically penalized.

Still uncertainties about the sanction

For the moment, only the internal combustion engine has been replaced on the number 44 car of the seven-time world champion, according to the technical report sent by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

One or more changes to the power unit this weekend will earn Hamilton one or more other penalties.

Before this 16th round of 22 on the Istanbul Park circuit, Hamilton is only two points ahead of Verstappen.
