Solskjaer criticizes the behavior of the Aston Villa players during Fernandes' penalty kick

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he was not happy with the behavior of the Aston Villa players and said their actions kept Bruno Fernandes out of focus as he missed a last-minute penalty in his team's 1-0 Premier League loss at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The United boss also complained about Courtney House's 88th-minute winner, insisting that goalkeeper David de Gea was held back by offside Ole Watkins.

Fernandes sent the ball over the crossbar to miss his second league penalty from 23 attempts, making House's header enough to secure Villa's first league win at Old Trafford since 2009.

"Bruno takes penalties really well. We always support him in that," Solskjaer told reporters.

"Obviously what they did worked, but it's not great to see. They did what they wanted. This is football. Bruno excels at penalties but sometimes things don't go well. There is a fine line between heaven and hell".

It was not clear who would take the penalty kicks after Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford this season, but Fernandes did not look at his Portuguese compatriot, as he grabbed the ball and put it on the penalty spot immediately.

Solskjaer did not indicate that there was a dispute between the players regarding the execution of the kick that was awarded in the 92nd minute.

"Cristiano has probably scored more penalties than any player in the world," he said. "We have great penalty kick players, we just missed an attempt today."

Aston Villa coach Dean Smith said: "I think we got a well deserved victory today. We caused them a lot of problems with set-pieces throughout the game, but the biggest thing for me was the courage we showed and they were really hard here.

"It's a long-awaited victory for Aston Villa at Old Trafford. We've done well in our last two games here."
