Matthijs de Ligt is experiencing a difficult start to the new season, but the defender was the goldcrest at Juventus on Wednesday evening.

The Dutchman, who is not always sure of a base place, shot the 'Old Lady' to a 2-3 win at low flyer Spezia.

Juventus could use the three points all too well, as it was only the 36-time national champion's first victory this season.

And that while Serie A is already in the fifth round.

"It was a difficult game. We played a good first half, but they scored a great goal just before half-time and that is always difficult. Then they scored the 2-1 at the beginning of the second half, but our character was important to win," De Ligt told

DAZN afterwards

.

The 22-year-old De Ligt lost his base place with the Dutch national team this month and the defender also started on the bench twice in the last four matches at Juventus.

Against AC Milan last week (1-1), he was even wrong for the entire match.

The former Ajax player is no longer as undisputed as last season, for example.

"I always have to improve. It's normal to get criticized. I've had a lot of criticism in my career and it's not that important to me. I just have to keep working hard to get better," said De Ligt.

The reactions in the Italian media were mixed afterwards.

Eurosport

called De Ligt "rocky, determined and very tough", but

La Repubblica

was a lot more critical: "Important with his goal, but De Ligt was generally far from perfect."
