Before the match, the conditions were clear.

The winner between Sweden and Japan will qualify for the next Paralympics in Beijing 2022.

The match, which was played in Östersund, was even at first.

Even though Sweden had the better shooting statistics, seven shots against Japan's three, the score was 0-0 after the first period.

In the second period, Sweden's Peter Ojala went out for interference - and then it took Japan only twelve seconds in powerplay before the lead goal came through Yudai Ishikawa.

Dramatic ending

Sweden chased an equalizer and with just over seven minutes left to play, 1-1 came into play with one more man when Niklas Ingvarsson put the puck in goal.

The blue and yellows, with only nine players in the team, then pressed for a winning goal but the match ended in a draw.

And after a goalless extra time, everything was decided on penalties.

There, goalkeeper Ulf Nilsson stepped forward and saved all three penalties - at the same time as Rasmus Lundgren set Sweden's only penalty.

The win took Sweden to a third place in the B-WC, which takes them on to the qualifiers for the Paralympics in Beijing 2022. An important victory for the national team with the 74-year-old national team captain Timo Lahtinen and former NHL player Daniel Tjärnqvist in the coaching staff.
