The Derby County (Championship) club, coached by former Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, announced Wednesday that they had filed for bankruptcy, which will result in a penalty of twelve points in the standings.

Currently twelfth in its championship with ten points in eight days, Derby will find itself last with -2 points, six lengths behind the current red lantern, Nottingham Forest.

"I can confirm that Andrew Andronikou, Carl Jackson and I have been appointed co-directors of Derby County Football Club from this day forward," wrote Andrew Hosking, who will be in charge of trying to save the club, in a statement posted on the Rams website.

“The Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the club's finances and on its ability to continue its long-term activity in its current form,” he explains.

Rooney will not leave the ship

"Our immediate objectives are to ensure that the club can play all of its Championship games this season and to find investors to safeguard the club and the jobs of its employees," they added. Arrived in 2020 as an assistant-player coach at Derby, a hundred kilometers southeast of where he did a string of exploits from 2004 to 2017 with the Red Devils, Rooney retired from player in January 2021 to be devote to his role as head coach. He pledged to stay at the club and do everything to help him in the event of bankruptcy.

“I have said it over and over again, I am involved in this club and vis-à-vis the group of players and the staff.

They matter to me and I will continue to do everything to help us get through this difficult time, ”he said last Saturday.

A man of honor the Wayne, certainly.
