Lois Abbingh is missing from the selection of the Dutch handball players for the European Championship qualifiers against Belarus and Greece.

It is not clear why the left builder was not called up by interim national coach Monique Tijsterman.

Estavana Polman will return to the Dutch handball players.

The 29-year-old Abbingh belonged to the Olympic selection of the handball players last summer, who were beaten by the later Olympic champion France (22-32).

Abbingh, who scored the winning goal in the World Cup final in 2019, scored only once in that match.

She was later found to have suffered a muscle injury.

Abbingh has been a fixture among handball players for years.

In addition to the world title in 2019, she won silver (2017) and bronze (2015) at a World Cup and grabbed silver (2016) and bronze (2018) at a European Championship.

She finished fourth at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

National coach Emmanuel Mayonnade was fired as a result of the disastrous Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Tijsterman took his place on an interim basis.

She will take on Mayonnade's duties until the World Cup, which will be held in Spain in December this year.

Polman returns after knee injury

The return of Polman is opposed to Abbingh's absence.

The Arnhem-born suffered a serious injury to her right knee in May.

That happened in her club Esbjerg's match against Odense in the semi-finals of the Danish championship.

As a result, she was unable to participate in the Tokyo Olympics.

Polman will initially only train with the Dutch handball players.

The European Championship qualifiers against Belarus (October 6) and Greece (October 10) are still too early for her.

Because Marine Smeets and Nycke Groot have stopped, the Netherlands has been considerably weakened after the Games.

The handball players have been placed in a group with Germany in the European Championship qualification next to Belarus and Greece.

The group winner and the runner-up automatically qualify for the European Championship in 2022, which will be held in Slovenia, North Macedonia and Montenegro.
