What and where?

The World Cycling Championships take place September 19-26 and are held in the cycling mecca of Flanders, Belgium.

A suitable place for the 100th anniversary of the World Cycling Championships.

The last time the championship was held in the region was in 2002, when Susanne Ljungskog won gold in the line race.

Sweden's squad

In the absence of Sweden's biggest star Emilia Fahlin (out of shape), Swedish top positions are not realistic.

- With Emilia from the start, we could have lined up with a team around her and have help riders.

Now it will instead be to invest young with some experienced cyclists around the young.

We can not go for results, but more give experience of running championships, says national team captain Lucas Persson to SVT Sport.

Women: Wilma Olausson (line + tempo), Julia Borgström (line), Hanna Nilsson (line), Sara Penton (line), Nathalie Eklund (line + tempo), Caroline Andersson (line)

Men: Lucas Eriksson (line) and Tobias Ludvigsson (line)

Course profiles

Flanders brings to mind competitions such as the annual one-day classic around Flanders.

The World Cup is not decided in the exact same place, but count on the iconic cobblestones and short, steep slopes.

The tempo race is decided in the northwest with the finish line in Bruges.

Winds and mostly flat areas are to be expected.

Mixed relay

Three men and three women compete in teams.

Debuted on the WC program 2019 but was deleted from the WC in Italy last year due to the pandemic.
