It remains to be seen whether Donyell Malen will start on Wednesday at Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League match against Besiktas.

The striker is not yet a fixed value in his new team and is given time by coach Marco Rose to adapt.

"Donyell is an exceptionally good footballer, but he has to get stronger physically," Rose said about the Dutchman at the press conference before the game in Turkey on Tuesday.

"We do notice that he has adapted well to the group and that he has contributed in every game he played. We give Donyell the time he needs, but in the meantime we challenge and encourage him in the process. ."

22-year-old Malen, who made the switch from PSV to Dortmund in the summer for 30 million euros, started twice in the Bundesliga this season and was a substitute twice.

The Orange international was not yet able to score or give an assist.

With or without Malen, Dortmund hopes to get off to a good start in the new Champions League season on Wednesday.

The Germans, who are in the same group as Ajax and Sporting CP, have already conceded nine goals in four matches in the competition.

"We are certainly not satisfied with that," said Rose.

"Besiktas have a team with a lot of quality, they defend aggressively and with Miralem Pjanic they have brought in a great player. We know what to expect."

The match between Besiktas and Borussia Dortmund in Istanbul starts on Wednesday at 6.45 pm.

Sporting CP and Ajax kick off at 9 p.m. in Lisbon, Portugal.
