Referee Danny Makkelie whistled the first top match of this season in the Eredivisie with PSV-Feyenoord on Sunday.

For Serdar Gözübüyük there is a nice Champions League poster on the program with Manchester City-RB Leipzig.

Makkelie will also first play in the Champions League.

On Tuesday he whistled the group match between the French club Lille and VfL Wolfsburg, the German team of trainer Mark van Bommel.

After the departure of Björn Kuipers, Makkelie is widely regarded as the best Dutch arbitrator.

Just like Kuipers, he was active at the European Championships last summer.

Last season, Makkelie of the KNVB was put in charge of two Eredivisie top players: PSV-Ajax (1-1) and Ajax-Feyenoord (1-0).

Leader PSV will take on Feyenoord in the Philips Stadium on Sunday from 2.30 pm.

PSV is the only club in the Eredivisie with the maximum score of twelve points after four rounds.

Feyenoord is on six points, but also played a game less.

The team of trainer Arne Slot did not play last weekend, because it has to play in the Conference League in Israel against Maccabi Haifa on Tuesday.

PSV will receive Real Sociedad in the Europa League on Thursday.

First CL duel Gözübüyük in nine months

Gözübüyük whistles Wednesday's match between Manchester City and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.

The 35-year-old referee also took the lead two years ago during a home game of Manchester City in the most important European club tournament, then against Dinamo Zagreb.

It is the first time since December last year that UEFA has appointed Gözübüyük in a Champions League match.

At the time, he was in charge of Club Brugge-FC Zenit (3-0).

José María Sánchez has been appointed for Wednesday's Champions League match between Sporting CP and Ajax.

The 37-year-old Spaniard has never whistled for Ajax before.
