Winner of German Alexander Zverev on Friday September 10 in New York, Novak Djokovic is preparing to face Russian Daniil Medvedev on Sunday evening in the final of the US Open.

"I'm going to play the next match like it's the last of my career," warned the world number one, on the way to becoming the most successful tennis player in history with 21 Grand Slams to his name.

In Serbia, the excitement is at its height.

Many Djokovic fans imagine him winning the trophy, as do the press, which is already celebrating his national hero.

Historic US Open broadcast in Serbia

"Ladies and gentlemen, Novak Djokovic will play for eternity tonight", headlines "Blic", the most widely read newspaper in the country.

Serbs will be able to watch the historic US Open retransmission on television, broadcast on a free channel.

"Courir", another very popular daily in the country, calls out with a mocking tone Federer and Nadal: "Roger and Rafa, come, look. Novak will break the record of 20 Grand Slam tournaments. He deserved the applause".

"We celebrate it all the time"

The late broadcast this evening, at 10 p.m. in Europe, at the time of the start of the final in New York, one more Sunday evening, may limit the crowd in the bars. But Alexandra, a French-speaking Serbian met yesterday in Belgrade, is not worried. "Whether he wins or not, there is always a party. We celebrate it all the time. So yes, that would not change much," says the young woman at the microphone of Axel May. Last March, when Djokovic broke another record - number of weeks as world number 1 - he was hailed as a hero in Belgrade.
