Too early happy: The Ethiopian Derara Hurisa was deprived of victory in the Vienna Marathon due to a shoe sole that was too thick.

“The sole of the road running shoes must not be thicker than four centimeters,” the organizer announced on the Sunday after the race via Twitter.

"Hurisa ran with a model whose sole is five centimeters thick."

The 24-year-old crossed the finish line first after 2:09:22 hours.

After his disqualification, the Kenyan Leonard Langat (2:09:25), who was initially second, was able to celebrate the victory.

In the marathon, the manufacturers recently caused many new personal bests and discussions with high-tech shoes that save the runner energy thanks to their voluminous soles.

Debutant wins in Hamburg

Martin Musau from Uganda has meanwhile won the 35th Hamburg Marathon on his marathon debut, which was around one and a half years late.

In the time of 2:10:14 hours he relegated the Ethiopians Masresha Bisetegn (2:10:54) and Belay Bezaph (2:14:00) to second and third place.

The fastest woman was Gadise Demissie (Ethiopia), who reached the goal after 2:26:19 and increased her best time by more than four minutes. Camilla Elofsson (Sweden / 2: 43: 27) and Marina Donnem (Norway / 2: 55: 16) followed on the next ranks. The fastest Germans were Benjamin Franke (LT Haspa Marathon Hamburg / 2: 32: 21) and fourth overall Angela Moesch (LG Deiringsen / 2: 58: 20).

The Hamburg Marathon, which was actually planned for April 2020 and postponed three times due to Corona, was the first major city marathon in Germany this year.

However, the strict G1 rule applied to the participants: They had to be fully vaccinated.

Including the relay, only 5157 runners were registered.

At 1.3 million euros, the event's budget was also well below the races of previous years.

Participation fees, sponsors and the city of Hamburg each covered a third of the budget.

Victory bonuses were not paid.

Two world records on the road

The Kenyan Agnes Tirop and the Ethiopian Senbere Teferi have set two world records on the road in Herzogenaurach.

At the running event on the Adidas grounds, Tirop ran the ten kilometers in 30:01 minutes, clearly undercutting the Moroccan Asmae Leghzaoui's record (30:29) for all-women races, which has been in place since 1992.

Her compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei covered the distance in a mixed race four years ago in 29:43 minutes.

The world association World Athletics leads the best times here in two separate ratings.

Teferi crossed the finish line over five kilometers after 14:30 minutes.

The world record of the Dutch woman Sifan Hassan only for women’s competitions stood at 14:44 minutes since 2019, in mixed runs the Kenyan woman Beatrice Chepkoech was a second faster in February of this year.
