Thanks to a large rotation and newcomer Suat Serdar, Hertha BSC Berlin has achieved the longed-for first victory in the still young Bundesliga season.

The bottom of the table, who started with three bankruptcies, made it 3-1 (2-0) at the promoted VfL Bochum on Sunday evening and left the relegation places with the first three points.

Offensive man Serdar, who came to Berlin from FC Schalke 04 for an estimated eight million euros, was the match winner with two goals (37th and 43rd minute) and thus took the pressure off the coach Pal Dardai, who was recently criticized.

After Simon Zoller's goal for VfL (59th), Myziane Maolida, who was brought in shortly before the end of the transfer deadline and came on in the 57th minute, made everything clear for Hertha with his goal to make it 3-1.

Bochum also suffered their third defeat of the season.

"We're last with zero points, so we have to move a bit," Dardai said before the start of the game on the DAZN streaming service.

Six newcomers were in the Berlin starting line-up against the 0: 5 at Bayern Munich.

The newcomers Ishak Belfodil and Marco Richter as well as Vladimir Darida, Niklas Klünter, Dennis Jastrzembski and Jordan Torunarigha started.

Tactically, Dardai chose Safety First with a five-man defensive chain.

The hosts from Bochum, where the former Herthaner Eduard Löwen and Konstantinos Stafylidis were new in the starting line-up, confidently took command in front of almost 14,000 spectators in the best football weather, as in the 2-0 win against Mainz. The only real chance, however, was a header from Simon Zoller after a cross from Elvis Rexhbecaj (19th).

After half an hour, the guest players extended their elbows a little more and were successful. Stark forced a loss of the ball from Bochum's captain Anthony Losilla, Darida quickly passed Serdar, who outmaneuvered three Bochumers on the edge of the penalty area and completed it from 15 meters into the far corner. And the former Schalke was a little later after a throw-in faster than the Bochum central defenders Armel Bella Kotchap and Vaseileios Lambropoulos and completed from an acute angle to 2-0 Berlin.

Bochum put everything on one card with the kick-off for the second half and immediately caused high tension. After a great solo, Gerrit Holtmann initially failed to Hertha goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, whose ball blocked into the center of the penalty area was able to push Zoller over the line to connect. The guests swam alarmingly at this stage. Then Maolida and later the experienced Kevin-Prince Boateng came on. And Maolida then provided the redeeming 3: 1 with a shot from 16 meters after a skilful individual performance.
