Yesterday, the UAE Special Olympics announced the launch of the Basketball Forum, which it organizes in partnership with the Jam Sports Basketball Academy, as part of its plan to develop 3X3 basketball, in preparation for the Berlin 2023 World Games. The forum is organized this month, and includes three main stations in the Zayed Foundation Olaya in Abu Dhabi, the first started yesterday, then the second in Sharjah on the 18th of this month, and Dubai on the 25th of the same month. About 100 male and female players, and 25 coaches and technicians from clubs and centers for people of determination in the country will participate in the three forums. The volunteer medical directors of the health screening program will provide free dental examinations to all the forum players.
The National Director of the Special Olympics, Talal Al-Hashemi, said in a press statement: "The main objective of the forum is to exploit the players' energies, and work to gradually return to competitions, with the full application of precautionary measures, in light of the spread of (Covid-19). We are pleased with the positive reactions from both the players and the technical staff supporting them, as everyone is eager to return to the field and participate in the matches, which is a great opportunity for the players to show their skills. Finally, I would like to thank JAM Basketball Academy for providing technical support and contributions to the organizational aspects of the forum. We also thank our partners in the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination for their wonderful hosting of this forum and for their pivotal role in supporting the UAE Special Olympics.”
For his part, the CEO of the Jam Sports Academy, Ahmed Suleiman, said: “The academy will work on a number of joint sports projects and programs, in cooperation with the Special Olympics, during the coming period, to qualify players towards a safe return to sports activity, as well as develop the level of athletes to participate in the next competition. He added: "Basketball is one of a package of sports programs that the academy will provide, in cooperation with the Special Olympics, in addition to other programs specialized in: handball, table tennis and ground tennis."
