Hanover 96 surprisingly won the north duel of the 2nd Bundesliga and thus blocked FC St. Pauli the way to the top of the table.

The Lower Saxony defeated Hamburg on Saturday deserved 1-0 (1-0) and are no longer on a relegation zone.

In front of 16,100 spectators, Sebastian Kerk scored the winning goal in the 39th minute for the highly committed and at least clearly better 96ers in the first half.

Goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj was St. Pauli's best man.

The 25-year-old Bosnian prevented further goals from Maximilian Beier (10th) and Niklas Hult (43rd).

After the break, the previous third in the table got stronger.

Christopher Buchtmann (63rd) and Jakov Medic (84th), who hit the crossbar with a header, gave the best chances.

Hannover remained dangerous through Kerk (69th) and Linton Maina (79th).

96 coach Jan Zimmermann had used the international break

to integrate

several late

signings.

The Austrian Lukas Hinterseer, the Cameroonian Gael Ondoua and the 18-year-old junior international Beier were in the starting line-up for the first time.

Bremen sovereign in Ingolstadt

SV Werder Bremen has continued its upward trend.

The North Germans won 3-0 (2-0) with newcomer Mitchell Weiser at newly promoted FC Ingolstadt.

While the FCI is still in the basement with four points from six games, the Hanseatic League improved at least temporarily to third place after their victory in front of 5825 spectators.

A lucky own goal by Nico Antonitsch (24th) and an individual performance by Weiser (42nd) gave Bremen an early lead.

Marvin Ducksch (49th) increased his head.

The Bremen team always combined close to the Schanzer penalty area from the start.

In the end, it was FCI defender Antonitsch who put the Bundesliga relegated player in the lead with a header own goal.

Asset Weiser, who played almost the entire right side, added a little later with a left-footed shot in the near corner.

The second half started as the first had ended: with a goal for the guests.

Goalkeeper Fabijan Buntic was able to parry a cross from Romano Schmid, but with Ducksch's dusty header he had no chance.

The urge phase of the Ingolstadt with chances through Filip Bilbija (67.) and Nassim Boujellab (82.) started too late.

Winless Karlsruher SC

Karlsruher SC remained without a win for the fourth time in a row, but saved at least one point in a wild final phase.

The Badeners did not get more than 2-2 (1-0) against Holstein Kiel, but were just able to avert the second defeat in a row.

The South Korean Kyoung-rok Choi had brought the KSC against the almost promoted of the previous season in the 39th minute in the lead.

Substitute Joshua Mees (78th) and Fin Bartels (80th) turned the game in favor of the guests.

Goalscorer Philipp Hofmann (88th) managed to equalize late for the Karlsruhe team, who have nine points after six matchdays.

Kiel is at five meters.

The Kielers played well in the first half hour, but remained too harmless in front of the goal.

A header from Finn Porath (20th) flew over the KSC box.

Six minutes before the break, Choi took a Hofmann header with his chest and overcame Holstein goalkeeper Ioannis Gelios from eleven meters.

Shortly after the break, Karlsruhe's Marvin Wanitzek narrowly missed the 2-0 (47th). Hofmann also had a good chance for the home side (76th). Then the Kielers struck twice: Joker Mees and veteran Bartels hit with their heads. In a spectacular final phase with chances on both sides, Hofmann then scored the 2-2 with a low shot.
