What a pity.

Now it's over.

Never again will we see Jean-Paul Belmondo live on one of his stages.

There is no need to recall his performance as an actor at this point.

The movie buffs can do that much better.

But why another tiny obituary?

Because he was a sports freak.

You could see that at first glance in this wonderfully wrinkled face.

The nose flattened from a hit.

Belmondo claimed all his life that he lacked talent for a boxing career.

Maybe.

But he fought.

As a football goalkeeper and on the rugby field, the old rough leg.

It's not written anywhere, but he was some kind of professional sportsman.

There was hardly a stunt in his action films that he didn't play himself in.

This not only requires courage, but above all a great body control.

Otherwise Belmondo would hardly have been 88 years old.

Now the greats of sport have also bowed.

You know what common trait developed in his youth that made Belmondo great after a respected actor advised him to stay away from this profession: he punched his way through.
