TSG 1899 Hoffenheim looked bad again against FSV Mainz 05.

The Kraichgauer were defeated on Saturday in the Bundesliga with 0: 2 (0: 1) and enabled the team of coach Bo Svensson to win their third win in a row in Sinsheim.

In front of only 8,427 spectators - including national coach Hansi Flick from nearby Bammental - U21 European champion Jonathan Burkhardt (21st minute) and newcomer Marcus Ingvartsen met just one minute after being substituted on (78th).

The Mainz team expanded their successful start to the season to nine points from four games and are still in the top group. Across the seasons, they only lost two of the last 15 league encounters. After their 2-2 draw against 1. FC Union Berlin on matchday two, Hoffenheim again failed to achieve a home win. The team of head coach Sebastian Hoeneß disappointed playfully across the board.

The Kraichgauer started without the Austrian Christoph Baumgartner, who is well-worn from international matches, but with the Bayern loan from Chris Richards, who was brought back shortly before the end of the transfer. The 21-year-old American was equally challenged in central defense alongside Kevin Vogt. The Mainz team was happy to take a lot of time when the game was interrupted, but when things got ahead, they stepped on the gas. So Richard was lucky that referee Marco Fritz did not punish a foul by him on Leandro Barreiro in a counterattack (15th).

A controversial free kick from the edge of the penalty area gave the guests the next chance: Jeremiah St. Juste forced goalkeeper Oliver Baumann to a parade (17th).

While the Hoffenheim team barely found each other at the front and also poorly in the duels, the Rheinhessen then really struck: After a bad pass from Jacob Bruun Larsen, Dominik Kohr put Burkardt in the limelight and the 21-year-old gave Baumann no chance.

Captain Baumann was also infected by the general uncertainty of Hoffenheim when he kicked a ball in the head of the surprised Karim Onisiwo.

The Mainz captain was no longer on the pitch: Moussa Niakhaté had to pass injured after half an hour.

With Baumgartner and Pavel Kaderabek, TSG coach Hoeneß brought two urgently needed new employees after the break. First, however, a Mainz man with bright red hair stood out: Barreiro appeared alone in front of Baumann, but did not bring the ball past the TSG goalkeeper (50th). Finally, Ingvartsen, who had come from Union Berlin, decided the game 2-0.
