• Didier Dinart, former coach of the France team, was dismissed from his post after the European Championship in 2020.

  • Without a post since, he joined Cavigal Nice Handball for three years as general manager.

He could combine his new missions with those of coach of a foreign nation.

The former coach of the French handball team, Didier Dinart, 44, has been appointed general manager at Cavigal NiceHandball, in the second division.

He has signed up for three years and will start the season this Friday evening with a first Proligue match against Cherbourg.

"He wants to start off on a good basis, which the Nice club has at its disposal, to distil his experience and bring us an additional aura, in particular with the arrival of partners and investors to make the club grow", explained Tanguy Mouchot, the president of Cavigal Nice.

"It's really very beneficial for us"

Didier Dinart, former defender of the France team, had been without a post since the end of January 2020 and his dismissal from the France team, after the elimination of the Blues in the first round of the European Championship.

This will be his first experience in the management of a club after having been assistant coach of the Blues, from 2013 to 2016, then coach, from 2016 to 2020.

“He wants to participate in the training of our young players, in the development of the game plan as well as in training sessions.

A defense specialist like him can give us advice.

It is really very beneficial for us ", rejoiced the president of the club before specifying that he" will be two thirds of the season with [them] ".

Does this mean that the new general manager could combine his new functions with those, potentially, of coach of a foreign nation?

In mid-August, the Federation had indicated on Twitter, supporting photos, that Didier Dinart was on site to discuss a “potential collaboration”.

A former teammate as a coach

In Nice, it is the Spaniard Eduard Fernandez, former teammate of Didier Dinart when he played in Ciudad Real in Spain, who will be the coach.

The 42-year-old former player had already coached the Riviera club from 2015 to 2019. He then joined the Aix-en-Provence management in D1.

"The club will change status and budget in the days to come," added Tanguy Mouchot, announcing the club's move to SAS soon.

As coach, Didier Dinart had guided the Blues to a world champion title in 2017, and two bronze medals, at Euro 2018 and the 2019 World Cup. Before that, he was assistant to Claude Onesta when the French won won the gold medal at Euro 2014 then at the 2015 World Cup, as well as silver at the Rio Games in 2016.

As a player, Didier Dinart had a golden career with the French selection.

With the generation of "Strong" then "Experts", he had won two Olympic titles (2008, 2009) and three World Championships (2001, 2009, 2011).
