Novak Djokovic, Serbia, is one step closer to a 21st Grand Slam title and a historic fourth Grand Slam in 2021. In the early hours of Swedish morning, he defeated Italian Matteo Berrettini in the US Open quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows in New York.

Just like in the round of 16, world setter Djokovic lost the first set.

Admittedly not as brutal as then - the set numbers were 5-7.

But just like in the eighth, he also came back and took home the following three - 6-2, 6-2, 6-3.

- It was a cruel match with a lot of energy on the court, and off.

Matteo (Berrettini) is an excellent player.

Every time we meet, it is always an even match.

This time it was no different, says Novak Djokovic to the US Open.

On Friday, Djokovic will meet the Olympic champion from Tokyo, the German world four Alexander Zverev, in the semifinals at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Zverev knocked Djokovic out of the Olympic tournament in the semifinals, but Djokovic leads in internal meetings 6-3.

Djokovic is now two victories away from touching Australian Rod Laber's performance from 1969, when he won all four grand slam tournaments in the same year.
