It was wild scenes of joy that took place when it became clear that Europe had defended the Solheim Cup title from 2019 and won on American soil for the second time ever.

It was hoped, "olé olé olé" was sung - and trust that it would be celebrated until the wee hours at the players' hotel in Toledo, Ohio.

- It is so great what the team has done here, with the whole audience against us.

This feels like my biggest Solheim victory because it became so extreme with the supporters, says Nordqvist to TT after breaking free from the hug party.

Draw

After arranging half a point in the first match against Lexi Thompson - Nordqvist has now played five straight singles matches without a loss - the 34-year-old Swede went out on the field to push his teammates to take the points needed for victory.

It felt a little shaky for a while when the United States seemed to be heading in the right direction, and the almost all-American audience at the Inverness Club began to get victory.

But in the end, a happy Nordqvist could breathe a sigh of relief.

Europe won by 15-13 after offering high-class golf for three days.

Experienced Nordqvist pulled a heavy load and scored two and a half points in four matches, but most impressed rookies and winners such as Irish Leona Maguire (undefeated in five matches) and Finnish Matilda Castren (who got to decide).

- That we can overcome the audience is incredibly large, I do not think many people understand how extreme it has been.

As much as they have shouted, and yet the American players are up with their hands to shout even more, says Nordqvist.

- Today you are actually a little ashamed sometimes, like at eleven and twelve when I hit two cannon shots and they are completely silent - or when they shout "yes" when you miss.

"It is cruel"

When Nordqvist flies home to Arizona on Tuesday, she can look back on a couple of incomparable weeks.

First the British Open victory at Carnoustie - her third major title - and now the Solheim Cup triumph which places her among the greatest in the history books.

Together with Laura Davies and Suzann Pettersen, the Swede shares the record of having been part of four winning European teams.

- Is that so?

It is cruel.

Weeks like this are among the most memorable in one's career, says Nordqvist.

Hope to play 2023

After the foursome loss on Sunday, she got up in an impressive way and offered sometimes brilliant golf in difficult conditions, with tricky gusts of wind and extremely hard greens, in the heavyweight meeting with Lexi Thompson.

- I am incredibly happy with how I played.

Yesterday it was tough, I felt that I crashed a little and maybe it was the last few weeks that came up a bit.

It has been intense since the British Open, says Nordqvist, who pays tribute to both the European team spirit and captain Catriona Matthew.

- We have had so much fun this week, a good team with good personalities and we have really fought.

- And Catriona - I did not understand how she could top winning at home in Scotland two years ago.

But then she took on the role of captain again and goes on to win in the USA.

It is impressive.

Immediately after the triumph in Ohio, the Scot stated that she will not lead the team at Finca Cortesín in Spain in two years.

Is Anna Nordqvist on the team for the eighth straight time then?

- Yes, I hope so but I want a family too.

But I know that my whole family back home in Sweden wants to be there then, we have missed the European fans this week, she says.
